Programme:

2023 is King Charles III Coronation year and the Kelvedon Singers are delighted to present a programme to celebrate this great occasion.

In the first half of the concert, we will sing a selection of magnificent works composed in this country over the last 4 centuries. Henry Purcell composed "I was glad" for the coronation of James II in 1685, and George Frideric Handel wrote his Coronation Anthems for George II in 1727 of which we will sing two. The soaring hymn, Let All the World in Every Corner Sing was set by Vaughan Williams in the early 20th century, and we finish this part of the concert with Alan Bullard's wonderful setting of "Alleluia".

In the second half, we turn our attention to some of King Charles' passions - trees, gardens, and wildlife, as well as the four nations of his country. We will range through madrigals and traditional songs, to eventually  find ourselves in Berkeley Square with a nightingale! Once in our capital city we couldn't resist giving the audience a taste of My Fair Lady - that quintessentially English musical!

We hope there will be something for everyone to enjoy, and we send you all home with a song in your hearts.
