Programme:

We have chosen three of Purcell’s best loved Anthems including ‘I was Glad when they Said unto me’, and arguably Bach’s most famous cantata ‘Jesu, meine Freude’.

Haydn’s Missa Brevis St Joannis de Deo is often known as his Little Organ Mass. He speeds through the familiar words of the mass by often giving the choir voices four different sets of words to sing at the same time! This gives rise to a joyous celebration of glorious music, and does indeed drastically shorten the work!

Mozart’s second setting of the Vespers was written in 1780 for Salzburg Cathedral and from it we have chosen his beautiful setting of ‘Laudate Dominum’ (O Praise the Lord), featuring a lilting soprano solo, echoed by the choir. It will truly be an uplifting welcome to Spring!
